Summer Solstice...
June 21st
Location TBD
Come join us for a Mayday celebration
of song and nature immersion in Pt Reyes National Seashore!
"Unite, unite and let us all unite for summer is a-come un today and wither you are going, we shall all unite in the merry morning of May!"
These are the words to the Mayday song that the whole town of Padstow in Cornwall, England, has sung together each year since before memory began, to celebrate the birth of summer on May 1st. Fires and heating are needed no more. Shoots and starts become full, food bearing plants. Days grow long and nights short; we come out! Out to play, to hike, energy is out, social, active, our work in the world is going for it, as are we; nourished by strawberries and sweet summer fizz, the sun is ours for months ahead; for it is Mayday, Beltane, the birth of summer.
Come join us to hike the magnificent Point Reyes coastline, to sing to the sea, hike and play, sit and take it all in, frolick and maybe even swim (!). We'll meet there at 2.45 (see 'where to meet')' hike and sing until about 6.30, then have a meal and a bonfire on the beach near the south Limantaur beach parking lot under the coastal night sky. If we're lucky, drummers will come and the power of their rhythms will join our singing. Bring yourself, your voice, and your own spice to add to the event. We're looking forward to singing in nature with you.
* Limited overnight options available, write to 'SingingInNature@gmail.com' for details.
This collaboration started when singer Briony Greenhill and nature wanderer Spencer Honeyman traded music lessons for plant lessons while hiking, and had such great fun that we couldn't keep it to ourselves. Briony will lead you into improvising with and for your surroundings. Spencer will guide you to connecting with the landscape and elements through movement and awareness practices. Together we will set a container of intention in which we can drop into nourishing connection with our selves, each other, our voices, our surroundings, and the cycle of the seasons.
We operate on a donation basis, suggested contribution is $35 for the day's workshop.
This helps us continue to organize these offerings. No one turned away for lack of funds and if you can give more, great!
